Witchlock Isle - Auditions

As a part of our Young Artists' Initiative, MediaContex will work with its partners to create a pilot of an audiodrama of our students' original idea:
Picture

Synopsis

The granddaughter of a missing lighthouse keeper visits the site of his disappearance. Joined by a team of ghost hunters, she soon discovers that she will be its next victim.

Natalie, an aspiring journalist, is the granddaughter of a lighthouse keeper who vanished during his shift. Hoping to solve this mystery, Natalie joins a group of ghost hunters whose latest expedition leads them to Witchlock Isle, the place of her grandfather’s disappearance.

Against the warnings of the lighthouse’s current keeper, the ghost hunters decide to spend an entire night inside the building. Trouble brews once the team discovers a battered journal with old entries by a mysterious author, and they begin to experience phenomena that is similar to what the book describes.

Their exciting adventure takes a terrifying turn once an electrical storm hits the lighthouse, cutting off all communication with the outside world. When strange noises and strange figures begin to appear, Natalie relies on the journal’s clues in hopes of surviving until daybreak. As the night draws on and the shadows close in, she quickly realizes that some mysteries were never meant to be solved.

Character List

Natalie

Picture
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Natalie is a budding journalist who yearns for adventure and mystery. Adventurous and bold, she jumps on a chance to investigate her grandfather’s disappearance, without realizing that she might be the lighthouse’s next victim.

Intelligent and resourceful, Natalie devises clever ways to overcome the obstacles she encounters. However, will her quick thinking last through the night?

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) So, this is the infamous Witchlock, huh? What were you doing here, grandpa?

  2. (Happy) My teachers always said I had a knack for finding good stories. I knew that this lighthouse had a secret as soon as we arrived.

  3. (Sad) I came here hoping to find answers to where my grandfather went. Now, because of me, we may share his fate.

  4. (Shocked) The final pages of this journal…are gone. They’re torn from its spine.

Antonio

Picture
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Antonio, the youngest member amongst the ghost hunters, has spent a good chunk of his teenage years investigating mysterious phenomena.

Observant and agile, he has learnt a lot from his peers, and can hold his ground in strange situations. Unfortunately, his courage also drives him to charge headfirst into danger, without realizing that his impulse might get him killed.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) I did some digging into the history of this place. Witchlock has one hell of a story to tell.

  2. (Happy) An actual, clear EVP! Did you hear those voices? We're dealing with an entire community of ghosts here.

  3. (Sad) When I joined this team, my brother assumed that I was destroying my future. I haven’t spoken to him in years.

  4. (Angry) Hey, Crypt Keeper! How's this for a jump scare?

Age: 30
Gender: Female
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Elaine, who is appointed as her team’s technical advisor, is in charge of handling their gear during their expeditions. Given her technological skill, she relies on her equipment to complete her tasks. However, once the storm hits, most of her devices are disabled, and she has to rely on her wit in order to get through the night.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) If anything moves out there, these cameras will pick it up. The footage won't be that "shot on a potato" crap you see online, either. We'll see Casper in HD.

  2. (Happy) Look at this footage! This is the first time we’ve recorded a fully-fitted free roaming vapour up close!

  3. (Sad) I don't know how I can help. Without the monitors and tech, I'm useless.

  4. (Angry) Why do the poltergeists always go for the cameras? You're lucky you're dead, or I'd be beating the insurance out of you!

Author

Age: 30
Gender: Male
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

The author of a mysterious journal that was buried underneath the lighthouse’s floorboards. Given the journal’s illegible handwriting, as well as its morbid content, we can only imagine how terrified the author must have been when they wrote its entries.

Lines:

  1. They're speaking again. The voices. They talk of things not of this world and of places where no one but God should tread. They're getting louder now and I fear I will soon be among them.

  2. I heard children laughing in the cellar this morning. I was not surprised to find the room empty as it usually was, but the faint imprint of hands, too small to be from the others, on the walls.

  3. Jonathan claims he saw someone standing on the edge of the cliff towards the south end of the island. Impossible with the hurricane currently bombarding us, and yet he swears to God himself.

  4. I'm all that's left now. My comrades have either gone insane and killed each other or taken their own lives to escape the maddening voices. I fear I too will soon be joining them. If you come to this place and find what is left of me and my friends then head my advice. Leave this place before it claims you.
