Masquerade - Auditions

As a part of our Young Artists' Initiative, MediaContex will work with its partners to create a pilot of an audiodrama of our students' original idea:
Picture

Synopsis

A teenager, who possesses a mask that can recreate faces, frames people for crimes that they didn’t commit.

Cyrus Blackthorn, whose family leads his kingdom’s militia, secretly admires the criminals who his relatives arrest.

Once he discovers an enchanted mask that allows him to recreate faces, he adopts the profiles of criminals who have previously escaped the law, and frames them for crimes that they did not commit.

At first, Cyrus enjoys sending vagabonds to the stocks. However, his charade takes a deadly turn when his petty crimes transform into grisly murders.

Pursued by Zia, a thief who he attempted to frame, Ingrid, a rookie on the militia’s intelligence division, and Damien, his cousin and primary investigator on his case, Cyrus embarks on a cat-and-mouse game may cost him his life.

Character List

Cyrus

Picture
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Intelligent and analytical, Cyrus is always one step ahead of the militia’s forces. His innovative strategies allow him to evade them.

Unfortunately, his intelligence has also made him arrogant. He assumes that he is the only one who is fit to wear his mask, and he uses it to uphold his contentious sense of justice.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) These villains have evaded the militia for years. Impersonating them is the only way to punish them for their crimes.

  2. (Happy) This is incredible! With this mask, I can change our kingdom for the better.

  3. (Bitter) Unfortunately, many people do not share my vision. That’s why I’m the only one who can complete this operation.

  4. (Angry) I’m the only one who can wield its power! This mask belongs to me!

Zia

Picture
Gender: Female
Age: 30
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Strong and fiery, Zia was a reformed criminal with a history of violence and thievery. After spending time behind bars, she decides to change for the better, and abandons her life of crime.

Despite her change of heart, Zia is persecuted for her past. Given her fiery temper, she finds it hard to hold back against her prosecutors.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) You hauled me out of those backwater streets for a reason. Mind telling me what it is?

  2. (Impressed) You’ve got a nice collection, chief. Any one of these weapons will make a fortune on the black market.

  3. (Bitter) That’s how the world works, kid. They judge me before they get to know me.

  4. (Angry) Give me the mask! You can’t handle the power it holds!

Ingrid

Picture
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Ingrid, who has recently joined the militia’s intelligence division, is one of its most promising recruits. She is able to analyse complicated datasets, which allows her to identify and locate elusive criminals.

Given that Ingrid is used to sitting behind a desk, she opts to help her friends from behind the scenes. However, if she discovers that they are in danger, her loyalty will drive her to help them on the field.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) I’ve analysed the timestamps I’ve retrieved from the kingdom’s database. Based on my findings, I believe that the criminal will strike by midnight.

  2. (Happy) Copy that, captain! I’ll contact the enforcers. We’re bringing him in.

  3. (Surprised) This is the first time that someone disabled my guidance system. Who is this guy?

  4. (Urgent) My tracker’s back online! He’s two blocks away from the royal archives!

Damien

Picture
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.

Resourceful and brave, Damien is an investigator who has closed several challenging cases. Unfortunately, his high success rate has made him arrogant, which makes him rather unpopular within the militia.

At first, he refuses to accept an ex-convict and a rookie analyst as his new partners. However, once he realizes that the mask’s wielder is more formidable than he thought, Damien gradually learns to rely on them for support.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) Frankly speaking, those two are unfit to work on this case. Our division has investigators who can replace them.

  2. (Cocky) Stand back, rookie. Leave this to a professional.

  3. (Sad) This is the first time I’ve ever felt…lost. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I need your help.

  4. (Angry) I have years of experience under my belt. Think twice before questioning my decisions!

Each project has its own budget, requirements, and plans for distribution. If you are cast for any of these roles, you'll be contacted by our casting representative, and will be able to negotiate your rates with them.

If you are cast, your clips will be used for internal pitching purposes. If you are cast, our students will use your clips to create pilot episodes, which will be showcased to our network of producers.

Your audition clips will not be used without your permission.

If this project generates enough funding and support from our network, we will broadcast our pilot materials to the public. Until then, selected voice actors will be paid for their work, and they will be credited in our internal pitching materials.

We are generating pilot materials for internal pitching purposes, and are currently unable to publicly disclose the cast list.

Submission Questions

Please ensure that you’ve sent your clips to the right email – admin@mediacontex.com.

Please make sure that you haven’t incorrectly typed “mediacontext”.com instead.

If all else fails, please contact Tiffany at hello@story-sight.com for assistance.

Of course! We keep all of our auditions on record. Even if you aren’t cast for this project, we’ll contact you about future opportunities.

Alternatively, you may contact us at admin@mediacontex.com and tell us what your preferred accent is. We’ll let you know if any VA opportunities come up.

Sorry, friend. Auditions will be closed after the deadline we've listed. However, we'll regularly update our auditions page with new projects, and you won't be short of opportunities.

You're welcome to submit 1-3 takes per line. Compile all of your takes for each line into a single file.

If you're shortlisted for our roles, you'll hear back from us approximately 2-5 days after the audition deadline has passed.

Please don't hate us if we don't send you a reply. Due to the number of auditions we receive, we may not be able to respond to each email. However, we appreciate your submission, and we hope that you'll continue to support our projects!

Unfortunately, MediaContex's team has a lot on their plate, and we may not be able to deliver feedback to individual VAs. However, we're very grateful to you for reaching out, and we hope that you'll continue to support our projects!
