The Eden Chronicles - Auditions Closed

As a part of our Young Artists' Initiative, Media Context will work with its partners to create a pilot of a motion comic of our students' original ideas:
Picture

A Telepath and an Immortal race against time to stop a cult from uncovering an ancient and deadly power.

Synopsis

Jack Barton is a 17-year-old telepath living in Eden, a utopian city comprised of some of 22nd-century Europe’s most advanced technology.

His peaceful life is disrupted upon the arrival of a mysterious girl named Circe, who possesses a journal that Jack finds strangely familiar, and is pursued by a dangerous Cult hell bent on hunting her down.

Along with Ellie, an aspiring journalist with a thirst for adventure, and Johnny, a reformed criminal with excellent hacking abilities, Jack and Circe must stop the cult before they unleash a power that could bring an end to all.

Character List

Jack
Picture

Gender:
Male
Age: 17
Accent: Standard American (Irish accent is preferred, but optional)
Jack Barton is a 17-year-old telepath from Dublin, Ireland. Along with his younger sister, Ellie, Jack lives in a small apartment within Eden City - a Utopia established by Europe’s most prominent cultures.

While he can be polite, he can also be a bit of a smart ass, cracking jokes at others’ expense, especially if they have been less than pleasant. Although he seems chipper, his attitude is used to hide a deeper pain.

On rare occasions, Jack uses his powers to mess with those that deserve it and can anticipate on-coming attacks from enemies if need be. He must routinely meditate in order to keep his abilities at bay. If he doesn’t, his telepathy will cause him immense pain from hearing thousands of voices at once.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) My powers are useful, especially at guessing games.

  2. (Happy) Don’t deny it. I’ve read your mind, and you think I’m charming.

  3. (Sad) I killed my father with my powers.

  4. (Angry) Get away from her!

Circe
Picture

Gender: Female
Age: 16
Accent: Standard American
Circe is a 260-year-old Immortal. Cursed to forever walk the earth, Circe travels as far as she can, never staying in one place for more than she needs to. Her eternal life has numbed Circe a great deal in terms of emotions, never again feeling truly happy or content.

Her immortality comes with a price far worse than outliving those she loves. A demon now shares her body and craves the souls and flesh of other mortals. It continuously tries to influence Circe into killing everyone in her path. However, Circe’s strong will allows her to control the beast, and to only unleash its hunger on criminals who deserve to die.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) I’ve lived through so many wars, and none of them had winners.

  2. (Angry) The next idiot to piss me off gets a beating so hard that their descendants will feel it!

  3. (Sad) Do you have any idea what it’s like to outlive everyone you will ever meet? It’s worse than death, Jack.

  4. (Happy) (Chuckles) Okay, I’ll give you this, Barton. That was pretty funny.

Ben
Picture

Gender: Male
Age: 45
Accent: Standard American
Benjamin Warner, a 45-year-old psychologist, was raised in Harlem,New York. Ben worked tirelessly to get into Harvard, where he graduated with top marks. He specialises in historical studies, as well as the mythologies of various cultures.

He mentored Jack when he was a tutor in a local Dublin college, in which he helped the boy to control his telepathy. His knowledge in both psychology and mythology allowed him to create the teen’s meditation routine.

Ben now resides in Eden as a criminal psychologist for the Eden PD. His humble personality and warmth towards others are some of his defining qualities.

Lines:

  1. (Happy) Jack! Long time no see, kid. How’s El doing these days?

  2. (Sad) I’m sorry, Samantha. She’s gone.

  3. (Neutral) Jack and I go way back. He’s just as annoying as he was back then.

Jennifer Walsh is a 33-year-old forensic doctor for the Eden PD. Jen was specifically selected for a special project that Ben devised upon meeting Jack and Circe, and has been appointed as his second in command.

Although she keeps her affairs to herself, her peers regard her as an approachable woman. Little do they know, she masks a dark secret beneath her warm personality.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) Here are the results from the blood analysis. Whatever affected her was strong stuff.

  2. (Happy) That’s what I’m talking about! Coffee hits the spot.

  3. (Sad) My parents and I were never too close.

  4. (Angry) Ben, go over all of this with me when it’s not 4 in the morning.
