As a part of our Young Artists' Initiative, MediaContex will work with its partners to create a pilot of an audiodrama of our students' original idea:

Synopsis

Two gifted hackers are hired to conduct a string of crimes. If they succeed, they get to keep half of their winnings. If they fail, their lives will be on the line.

David and Annika, a pair of promising coders, are both model students in a university that specialises in IT. Underneath their impressive GPAs, they have executed numerous cybersecurity breaches, and have gotten away with thousands of dollars.

Although the authorities have not identified them, their talent is noticed by a notorious criminal. He recruits them to devise schemes for his field agents, who are employed to break his colleagues out of prison, and steal valuables from protected facilities.

Overnight, David and Annika are thrust into their greatest challenge yet - If they fulfil their employer’s wishes, he will grant them more money than they have made from their previous heists. If they fail, they will stake their lives.

Character List

David

Picture
Gender: Male
Age: 18-20
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Cunning and strategic, David is able to breach fortified databases, and obtains valuable information that he distributes to wealthy bidders. These activities have allowed him to acquire knowledge about guarded facilities and valuable objects.

Although David is highly intelligent, he hates being proven wrong. He loses his temper whenever Annika identifies flaws with his techniques.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) Don’t underestimate me. It’ll take a while to breach their defences, but I’ve faced tougher challenges.

  2. (Happy) And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you rob a bank!

  3. (Sad) We failed because of my mistake. Thanks to me, we’re as good as dead.

  4. (Afraid) Hurry, Annika! Security is on my tail!

Annika

Picture
Gender: Female
Age: 18-20
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Intelligent and diligent, Annika has developed a method to remotely control multiple forms of technology. She is able to chart the layout of secret facilities and disable their security systems.

Although she appreciates David’s keen intellect, she is used to working alone, and finds it relatively difficult to rely on him for assistance. However, given the nature of their deadly job offer, she must learn to cooperate with her teammate before their time runs out.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) Okay, we’ve got four guards at the front entrance, eight on the roof, more than fifteen at the back entrance, and enough security cameras to capture my good side.

  2. (Happy) I can do it. Give me five minutes with a computer, and I’ll have Fortnox on its knees.

  3. (Angry) Rats! Their security is tighter than we thought.

  4. (Sad) You weren’t the one who slipped up. It’s my fault we’re trapped.

Caliban

Picture
Gender: Male
Age: 30-40
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Flamboyant and diabolical, Caliban is a notorious villain who has a history of theft and blackmail. Driven by his hunger for wealth and prestige, Caliban will resort to extreme measures to achieve his goals. He terrorises the innocent, extorts his colleagues, and does not hesitate to eliminate those who hinder his plans.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) They call me "insane, disconnected and homicidal". They're right, of course, but that’s not the point.

  2. (Happy) That’s fantastic! If I wasn’t threatening your lives and loved ones, I’d embrace you!

  3. (Bitter) Let me make this clear, you little brat. Do as I say, or I’ll paint the wall behind you with Hint of Brain.

  4. (Maniacal) They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. Which is why I’m going to take this truck and close the distance between us. I’ll be very fond of the end result!

Lieutenant Garcia

Picture
Gender: Female
Age: 30-40
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Bold and determined, Lieutenant Garcia is a deputy who has been on Caliban’s trail for years.

Fuelled by an unwavering sense of justice, she conscientiously documents Caliban’s crimes, and her research has allowed her task force to predict his next move.

Unfortunately, her thirst for justice has led her to make reckless decisions, as she tends to pursue Caliban at the expense of her colleagues’ safety.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) Watch your mouth, cadet. Caliban’s a dangerous criminal who shouldn’t be sympathised with.

  2. (Happy) Finally! After months of searching, we’ve got another lead!

  3. (Disappointed) Why would you pull me off this case? If it wasn’t for me, we wouldn’t have gotten this far.

  4. (Angry) We were so close! How could you let him escape?

Production Questions

Each project has its own budget, requirements, and plans for distribution. If you are cast for any of these roles, you'll be contacted by our casting representative, and will be able to negotiate your rates with them.

If you are cast, your clips will be used for internal pitching purposes. If you are cast, our students will use your clips to create pilot episodes, which will be showcased to our network of producers.

Your audition clips will not be used without your permission.

If this project generates enough funding and support from our network, we will broadcast our pilot materials to the public. Until then, selected voice actors will be paid for their work, and they will be credited in our internal pitching materials.

We are generating pilot materials for internal pitching purposes, and are currently unable to publicly disclose the cast list.

If we are able to generate enough funding and support to make this project public, we will disclose a full list of our cast and crew. Until then, our cast and crew will be paid for their work, and they will be credited in our internal pitching materials.

Submission Questions

Please ensure that you’ve sent your clips to the right email – admin@mediacontex.com.

Please make sure that you haven’t incorrectly typed “mediacontext”.com instead.

If all else fails, please contact Tiffany at hello@story-sight.com for assistance.

Of course! We keep all of our auditions on record. Even if you aren’t cast for this project, we’ll contact you about future opportunities.

Alternatively, you may contact us at admin@mediacontex.com and tell us what your preferred accent is. We’ll let you know if any VA opportunities come up.

If a character has a "Standard American" accent, we'd like you to use a typical General American accent for all of your lines.

Sorry, friend. Auditions will be closed after the deadline we've listed. However, we'll regularly update our auditions page with new projects, and you won't be short of opportunities.

You're welcome to submit 1-3 takes per line. Compile all of your takes for each line into a single file.

Label each line according to their line number. If there are four lines for your character, you should have four files in total.

Sure. Please separate each character’s lines into separate ZIP folders, and label each file as:

“CharacterName 1_YourName_Audition”

“CharacterName 2_YourName_Audition”

You may include all of your files in the same email. Label your email subject as: "[CharacterName1], [CharacterName 2] _YourName_Audition”

We're always looking for new talent. Feel free to share your demo reel, profile, website, etc. in your audition email.

If you're shortlisted for our roles, you'll hear back from us approximately 1-2 days after the audition deadline has passed.

Please don't hate us if we don't send you a reply. Due to the number of auditions we receive, we may not be able to respond to each email. However, we appreciate your submission, and we hope that you'll continue to support our projects!

Unfortunately, MediaContex's team has a lot on their plate, and we may not be able to deliver feedback to individual VAs. However, we're very grateful to you for reaching out, and we hope that you'll continue to support our projects!
